The Tetley

The Tetley has inherited a fascinating archive of material from the Brewery’s industrial past. This archive contains thousands of items relating to the history of the brewery that stood on the site for nearly 200 years. It includes important artworks such as paintings, architectural plans, photographs, silverware and furniture, but also fascinating ephemera like marketing materials, tools, commemorative beers and business documents.

A small selection of the archive is on display in the restaurant, highlighting the fascinating variety of materials that form part of the Archive and the development of Tetley’s Brewery through the ages. It includes pub signs from Tetley houses and other breweries the company merged with, tools used in the brewing process, commemorative beers brewed for royal, historic and sporting occasions, vintage advertising and photographs of the brewery.

We have very little documentation on the material we hold, but we are working to build our knowledge and make the archive more accessible. So if you know about any of the materials on display – please let us know.
