Produced as a limited edition of sixteen to mark the 200th anniversary of the opening of Leeds & Liverpool Canal in 2016, this photograph documents Roger Palmer’s public artwork, Botany Bay, a text work installed on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal in 2007. Botany Bay received its name in 1808 as the landing place of the first shipment of Australian raw wool bound for Yorkshire mills. A New Reality was the first publishing project by The Tetley and was published to coincide with the opening of the building. A New Reality looks at the redevelopment of The Tetley and its change of use from a closed industrial site to a publicly accessible space for contemporary art. Designed by Joe Gilmore, the book features photography by artist Stephen Iles, texts by Simon Baker (Chetwoods Architects), Kerry Harker (Co-founder of The Tetley) and Zoe Sawyer (Curator, The Tetley) as well as contributions from participating artists.
