The Tetley

Libraries, Literacy and Language

SATURDAY 15TH SEPTEMBER, 12pm - 4pm, FREE

The Tetley welcomes visitors to view an International Digital Project co-commissioned by the Tetley and Karachi Biennale Trust.

Working with artist filmmaker Rajnish Madaan, school children from Morley Newlands Academy, New Bewerley Community School and Batley Girls’ High School have created three short films. In Karachi, the Karachi Biennale Trust Educational team worked with eleven young people who responded to the lack of public libraries in Pakistan.

Inspired by a new film work by Pakistani artist Madiha Aijaz that was shown at The Tetley earlier this year; The Tetley worked with the Karachi Biennale to digitally connect the ethnically and religiously diverse cities – Karachi and Leeds, exploring language and libraries; how we use them and what they might become in the future.

This project is a co-commission by The Tetley and Karachi Biennale, Pakistan, and is part of the New North and South; a three-year programme of activity across eleven organisations from the North of England and South Asia supported by Arts Council England and the British Council.

Drop in anytime between 12pm – 4pm.
