Richy Carey: {stereo – type – music}

  • 14 Jul – 22 Oct 2023
  • Wednesday – Sunday, 10am–5pm
  • Shirley Cooper Gallery & Gallery 9
  • Free entry

{stereo – type – music} is an audio work and installation at The Tetley by composer Richy Carey.

The exhibition draws together Carey’s work with choirs, artists, community groups and other collaborators from across Dundee, first presented as part of Art Night 2023.

{stereo – type – music} explores how different publishing practices might inform the ways we listen to each other, through a surround sound work and an accompanying newsprint publication of scores, stories, letters and texts.

Considering listening to be an innately collaborative act, Carey creates music that comes from collectively composed scores and recordings made from multiple perspectives. Carey has composed a work from choral singing sessions, memories of newspaper callers, graphic scoring workshops, field recording classes, the vast factory floor of DC Thomson’s print works and the intimate handmade letter presses of Quarto Press.

Richy Carey: {stereo – type – music} is a co-commission with Art Night with support from Creative Kernow, The Elephant Trust, the University of Dundee and the Scottish Graduate School of Arts and Humanities.
