Learn the fundamentals of portrait painting in this four week course with artist Julia Pomeroy.

Depicting a person of your choice, these classes focus on reflecting their likeness, character and essence.

Starting with drawing exercises and building up to oil painting, Julia will reference oil portraits from modern and contemporary art to inspire you through the process.

Together, you’ll learn about facial proportions, positioning of features, hair, light and shade, and explore details to bring your portraits to life.

Through these guided sessions, you’ll produce a final oil painting to take home.

About

Suitable for both beginners and more experienced painters.

All materials are provided. You are invited to bring a selection of reference images of the person whose portrait you wish to paint.

Julia Pomeroy is an oil painter from London, based in Leeds. She is currently a studio holder at Assembly House and is working towards a series of group exhibitions. Through an ongoing exploration of colour and light, her figurative paintings create narratives featuring figures within architecturally interesting and psychologically charged spaces.
