Das Hund: For Freedom Album Tour
Wednesday 31 October, 7pm, FREE, booking essential
Das Hund are artists Samuel Levack and Jennifer Lewandowski. Collaborating with various guest musicians, Das Hund’s live performances feature spoken word poetry and songs, accompanied by guitars, bass, keyboards and looped drumbeats remixed using analogue tape delays, with the artists’ films projected across the stage set. Their lyrics present a visionary exploration of the modern world – reflecting on the political turmoil in the world today, reimagining radical counterculture ideas that are returning to the popular imagination and exploring concerns about the place of the artist in our contemporary society which increasingly seeks to commodify creativity.
Their debut album For Freedom will be released on vinyl and digital download in Autumn 2018, featuring musicians Euan Hinshelwood, Bryan Michael Mills, Nicholas Pankhurst, Fancy Smith, Serafina Steer. The launch will be accompanied by their first UK tour.
Das Hund have performed across the UK and internationally including Galerie Crèvecoeur, Marseille, France (2018), Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles, USA (2016), Actual Size Los Angeles (2016), Somerset House, London (2016), ArtReview Live, London (2015–16), Garage Rotterdam, Netherlands (2015), Serpentine Galleries, London (2015), Whitstable Biennale, UK (2014), Wysing Arts Centre, UK (2013), South London Gallery (2012), Dazed Emerging Artists Award, London (2011).
For Freedom emerged out of the Alternative Living Tour (2016), which took Das Hund on a journey through the desert landscape of Joshua Tree and the city of Los Angeles, against the backdrop of the concurrent US presidential election. The project was supported by the Artists’ International Development Fund, a prestigious award from the British Council and Arts Council England.
