A New Reality: Part 2
11 April - 15 June 2014
A New Reality is The Tetley’s inaugural programme spread over a nine-month period. The programme explores themes of ‘labour’ (manual, industrial and immaterial), the telling of overlooked or fading histories and the cyclical process of change. The Tetley’s debut proramme aims to generate innovative contemporary art production and programming whilst raising the visibility of and developing new audiences for contemporary art in the city.
Contemporary artists have been commissioned to create new work which unpicks the fabric of the building, its history and new use. These creative reflections will present an opportunity for visitors to experience the future of contemporary art through the work of emerging artists, within an environment steeped in history.
A New Reality is characterised by several artists’ residencies and accumulative projects which showcase new work produced responsively for the specific context of The Tetley. A New Reality: Part 2 encourages audiences and artists to question and imagine the role of a dedicated home for contemporary art in Leeds, helping to map out its future curatorial approach and lines of enquiry.
