A New Reality: Part 1
November 2013 - March 2014
Opening on 29th November 2013, The Tetley’s inaugural programme A New Reality invites audiences to join artists in unraveling the history and future use of the former Tetley Brewery headquarters through a series of artist projects, exhibitions, events and residencies.
Part 1 of this 9-month programme features projects and exhibitions from artists Emma Rushton & Derek Tyman, James Clarkson, Simon Lewandowksi & Sam Belinfante, and Rehana Zaman.
A New Reality launches The Tetley as a permanent contemporary art space, taking the theme of ‘labour’, the telling of overlooked or fading history, and the cyclical process of change, as starting points for the space’s transformation. An intergenerational mix of contemporary artists have been invited to create cross-disciplinary interventions that are sensitive to the site’s past.
These creative interpretations of the building’s heritage will present an opportunity for visitors to experience the future of contemporary art within an environment steeped in history.
From 29 November 2013 to Spring 2014, Part 1 of A New Reality will encourage audiences and artists to question and imagine the role of a dedicated home for contemporary art in Leeds, helping to map out its future curatorial approach. Projects within A New Reality will occupy the full range of First Floor spaces at The Tetley, including a new triple-height central atrium gallery and smaller spaces within the former offices.
Parts 2 and 3 of A New Reality will run from April to June 2014 and June to August 2014 respectively and will include participation from artists Rachel Adams, Ben Cain, Rob Kennedy, Aidan Moesby and Nous Vous. More details will be announced later in the year.
