The Tetley

The Tetley Resource Space Commission

by Natalie Finnemore

Untitled (arrange, stack, utilise, relax), 2013.
Produced in collaboration with Ben Lyon, one half of LYON & LYON.

Sheffield-based artist Natalie Finnemore worked in collaboration with The Tetley’s curatorial team to produce a set purpose-built modular furniture incorporating bookshelves, work surfaces, seating and display units. The Tetley team and guest curators will co-ordinate interactive projects to create an inspiring setting for intellectual stimulation and creative play.

This bespoke set of sculptural furniture stands as an artwork within A New Reality as well as a permanent fixture at The Tetley, providing a vital space for visitors to engage with and reflect on this project and those to come.

Anchored to a first floor gallery space over the course of A New Reality, these  mobile units will change position and be located at different junctures throughout the building in the future.

Aiming to support and stimulate intellectual and practical engagement with The Tetley’s artistic programme and wider contexts of current art practices, this multipurpose unit will incorporate bookshelves, reference material, work surfaces, display units and seating to provide audiences and practitioners with an armature for thinking and learning. This space will be regularly programmed by The Tetley, invited guest-curators and artists.

Visitors are invited to spend time here, using the available materials, including books, articles and activities inspired by our exhibitions programme, suitable for children and adults alike.  Enjoy using our art materials and taking part in independent making activities available in the space.  Adults can browse our extensive collection of reading material, recommended by our exhibiting artists and programming team, as well as read more about The Tetley and its rich heritage.

Natalie Finnemore has produced a limited edition print inspired by the commission (pictured above). Available for sale at The Tetley, Untitled (pavement), 2013 is a two colour screen print on Cyclus 280gsm paper, 34.2 x 45.7cm. £240 unframed.
