Join The Tetley Board of Trustees
The Tetley is seeking new trustees to join its board as it embarks on an exciting new chapter following the recent appointments of Bryony Bond as Creative Director and Gerald Jennings as Chair.
The Tetley is a centre for contemporary art in the heart of Leeds’ South Bank. Housed in the 1931 headquarters of the Joshua Tetley & Son brewery, The Tetley opened in 2013 as a gallery with a learning studio, work spaces for the creative industries, restaurant and bar. Instigated by artists, and established by Project Space Leeds, artists remain at the heart of everything we do at the The Tetley today. Through our programme of exhibitions, residencies and events we aim to inspire and bring audiences closer to art and artists, supporting the production of new work and developing artists’ practice.
Already over 100,000 people visit The Tetley every year, many of whom have never been to an art gallery before. Through our exhibitions, events and outreach activity, we inspire and support the creative development of a wide and diverse audience, from toddlers to teenagers, working with families, schools and community groups. Our outreach activity is particularly focused on the areas of South Leeds where opportunities to participate in arts activity are low and there are high levels of deprivation, with 12 LSOAs ranked in the 1% most deprived living environments in the country.
As The Tetley continues to grow, we wish to expand and diversify our board of trustees, to contribute to the vision, ambition and reach of the organisation. An enthusiasm for contemporary art is essential, as is a desire to diversify and widen its audiences. We particularly welcome applications from those with experience of running an arts centre, working in Higher Education, or from artists. The Tetley is strongly committed to equal opportunities and to Arts Council England’s Creative Case for Diversity and welcomes applications from people of any and every diversity.
The Tetley board meet quarterly in Leeds, with occasional meetings in between, attendance of events at The Tetley is also encouraged. This is an unpaid role – travel expenses will be covered.
To apply please send a brief covering letter and CV to Kirsty.firstname.lastname@example.org, outlining your interests in the role. For an informal chat or for more information contact Bryony Bond at email@example.com or 0113 320 1862.
